Barack's Punishment

Talking about sex/abortion/contraception recently, Barack said that he wouldn't want his daughters to be punished with a baby. Some are trying to argue that he wasn't saying what it sounds like he said. Media Matters is a "watchdog" group that purportedly tries to give us some truth. Take a look and see what you think.

It was hard to distinguish what Obama was actually saying from the video because he has trouble speaking without prepared remarks. The printed text of his remarks is enlightening. Here's the bullseye excerpt...

"So, when it comes to -- when it comes specifically to HIV/AIDS, the most important prevention is education, which should include -- which should include abstinence only -- should include abstinence education and teaching that children -- teaching children, you know, that sex is not something casual. But it should also include -- it should also include other, you know, information about contraception because, look, I've got two daughters -- 9 years old and 6 years old. I'm going to teach them first of all about values and morals, but if they make a mistake, I don't want them punished with a baby. I don't want them punished with an STD at the age of 16.

You know, so, it doesn't make sense to not give them information. You still want to teach them the morals and the values to make good decisions."

Sounds to me like Obama thinks an unwanted pregancy is punishment. I don't know what he learns at his church but at my church we are taught that children are a gift from the Lord. How we receive that gift is up to us.

Obama clearly thinks that every child needs to be a wanted child. A show of hands, please? Who has a child that maybe didn't arrive under the most ideal of circumstances? Would you call him/her a punishment?

Sounds to me like he thinks that an unwanted child would be punishment. Or at least that's what he meant when he said it. I am willing to suspect that rather than think it, he has been programmed to use that language, and maybe he spoke without thinking, accepting the attitude that a liberal is supposed to have without really questioning it.
