Rove says Barack is making a mistake hammering McCain all the time on his strength - the war in Iraq. Spend some time building your guy up, he tells the Obama people.
Newt says that McCain should be filling the leadership void on rising gas prices. Put together an emergency proposal to deal with the crisis, including a move to start releasing inventory from the strategic oil reserve, which would change the psychology of the commodities markets and push the price down aggressively. This puts McCain in control of the most emotional issue, and puts the Democrats in catch-up as McCain calls for Barack to return to Washington to vote on his package.
McCain's energy proposals should include a call for easing restrictions on offshore drilling and shale production in the Rocky Mountains.
Newt's American Solutions project has an online petition that says:
We, therefore, the undersigned citizens of the United States, petition the U.S. Congress to act immediately to lower gasoline prices (and diesel and other fuel prices)* by authorizing the exploration of proven energy reserves to reduce our dependence on foreign energy sources from unstable countries.
